CAF take note! Account on the physical attack on Abdul Sesay during the first half break in Benin.
At the end of the first half in Benin, substitute players of the Leone Stars took to the pitch to warm up but they were immediately stopped by a senior officer of the Benin Federation. I wouldn't know why, but it was a surprise to many football fans at the stadium describing that action as violation of the rules of the game.
Five minutes to commencement of the second half, Abu Sesay enterd the pitch from the addressing room. He immediately went to the goal of the Benin team and started netteting the ball in the empty goal of the Benin team.
Spectators at the stadium shouted each time he kicked the ball into the net. Few seconds after the forth kick, an official of the Benin Federation rushed to the player and asked him to either stop or to go to his own goal and continue.
I would imagine that there was an argument between the player and the official at this period. The officer was more violent in his actions towards the player.
In all of this, Sesay was the only player on the pitch, thus more officials from the Benin Federation came around him to violently remove him from the pitch especially from their own half.
At this stage, the break had ended and the two teams including officials were now coming out.
Opening seening the physical and violent attack on Sesay, some officials from the Sierra Leone delegation went to rescue the player but that too escalated the situation. At this stage, officials of the two teams got themselves into hited argument and exchanges. Some fans who have no official rule to play entered the pitch and worsen the situation.
The march could not resume for about 10 minutes until the situation was later put under control by the match officials including the commissioner.
